We have had Guitar Hero and Rock Band put us in the shoes of a full blown rock star fantasy, playing instruments with our favorite tracks for a couple of years now.  It was only a matter of time until someone realized that the hip-hop genre was underserved by these rhythm games.  Most thought it would be DJ Hero coming to release from Activision, but it seems that a new player, Genius Products and 7 Studios will release their title first, Scratch: The Ultimate DJ.

While the game has been announced for awhile, we now have some of the tracks that will be in the game, along with a Summer 2009 release date on all next generation consoles.  The assumption would mean that it is coming to the PS3, 360 and Wii consoles.

Five tracks out of the 60 that are on the disc were announced today.  Those tracks are as follows:

– Flashing Lights- Kanye West
– Intergalactic- Beastie Boys
– Let’s Get it Started- The Black Eyed Peas
– Slacker – Tech N9ne
– Don’t Sweat the Technique- Eric B. and Rakim

Genius also noted several of the other acts that have been licensed, including The Gorillaz, Nelly, Run DMC and Deltron 3030.  One thing that has not been mentioned is whether Scratch will use a new plastic peripheral or if it will just take a standard controller.  More plastic in my house, as much as this game would appeal to me, might turn me off of the game.  At the same time, you want the game to give you the feel of spinning the wheels of an SP-1200, so it will be interesting to see what they come up with.
