Capcom Talks Up Focus on Co-op Gaming

Capcom, with Resident Evil 5 and now Lost Planet 2, is putting a heavy focus on co-op gameplay in their titles. This focus will be in all their titles going forward over the next couple of years. Our friends over at Co-Optimus got a chance to interview Chris Kramer, the senior director of PR and Community Management, and discuss why Co-op gameplay has become a focus for Capcom. You can check out the whole interview at Co-Optimus.com.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of the co-op experience, unless I've beaten the game already. I find that if I'm playing with another person, I can't focus on the storyline. Since I'll most likely be playing my first time through with the AI version of Sheva, it'll basically be like carrying around dead weight. I felt the same way in Resident Evil 4 when I had to lead Ashley all over the place. At least Sheva has a gun, but I'd still rather be Chris going solo, and maybe have Sheva be an Ada Wong-style character.
I think you also lose the boob locator if you play co-op. That is a losing proposition for all gamers.
I agree with the storyline aspect – but if the story sucks, co-op-it-up!
O RLY? Well then this whole system seems botched! Maybe I'll just print out a picture of Sheva's bust to hold by my side at all times.
I wish that Far Cry 2 would have had co-op play because that game's story was TERRIBLE. Not to mention the voice work made me want to shove forks into my ears. It would have been so awesome planning out missions with a partner. One guy gears up with all explosives like the flare gun, mini-grenade launcher, and flamethrower to start a diversion, while the other takes the silenced 6P9, MP5, and Dart Rifle and flanks around the side.
I can totally agree that Far Cry 2 would have been perfect for co-op play. I mean there are all those other mercenaries that you work with through the single player game. Any of those could of been co-op players.
If they could put it in Mercenaries 2, it should of been in Far Cry 2.
I had too high of expectations for Far Cry 2, but I think co-op would have improved my final verdict by a lot. Planning before carrying out a missions is something that Ubisoft Montreal wanted players to focus on, and I think that would have been so much more fun with a buddy. Let's hope they'll implement that into a sequel.
