Sony pulls a Home on Qore
With two editions of Sony’s PULSE in the can, we can safely say one thing: It’s pretty much the advertainment content of Qore stripped out and provided as a free download (should be a stream! Who wants to waste time downloading commercials?!) When Pulse was first announced last month, it promised the following:
The program features new Blu-ray disc and PlayStation Network releases from the PlayStation Store, including games, demos, movies and television series available for your PS3 and PSP.
Which is, like, a complete menu tab on the average episode of Qore. So even if you were the type who enjoyed high-def movie trailers and whatnot, you’ve found even one more reason to not pay for Qore. And I strenuously object to Sony including the word “demos” in that explanation.
This is all very reminiscent of Sony pulling all the drooly features out of Home and building them into the PS3 OS, such as Trophies, leaving Home a dull wasteland of soulless automatons with 50 cent t-shirt DLC. Not that I was ever super-excited to watch ads in Qore, but it does raise the question of why Qore is losing “exclusive” content. Of course the obvious answer is that some suit realized that they’re not going to sell more copies of blu-ray Dark Knight if the commercial is locked behind a $3 wall.
