Something Is Finally on the Games for Windows Marketplace
After a month and a half of nothing but videos and demos, the Games for Windows Marketplace finally has something to actually download for an existing game. Bethesda was the first developer to drop some DLC on the GFW Marketplace, in the form of Operation Anchorage, the latest update to last fall’s big RPG hit, Fallout 3.
As you can see, you can download this content from the standalone Games for Windows Client, or you can download it from inside the game, courtesy of the last patch that was released for Fallout 3. Unfortunately, you will have to shell out points for the Operation Anchorage DLC, as it costs 800 points. Seems that could be the downside of the Marketplace for PC gamers and the upside for developers. It will give developers a way to make extra money off of the downloads that have normally been free to gamers in the past. It will be interesting to see if more GFW Live enabled titles start using this route for adding additional content.
Personally, it is not a huge issue for me, as I think the amount of content in Operation Anchorage will be worth the points, but all it takes is one suit of armor for 400 points to kill the enthusiasm.
