Neversoft Says Nevermore to the Tony Hawk Series

Submitted by Joe Haygood on January 12, 2009 – 5:17 pmComments

The Tony Hawk series has been around for many years now, going back to its roots on the PS2 10 years ago.  Behind each of those releases was the development group Neversoft.  Every year, they had moved and progressed the series over the year starting from a simple skating arena, to adding story modes and heavy character creation to the mix.

That said, a competitor by the name of skate. stepped into the fray and presented a new, more refined skateboard mechanic that had everyone chatting about how great it was, and how poorly Tony Hawk’s Proving Grounds compared to the EA release.

After taking a year off, we now have word from one of the founders of Neversoft, stating that they have given up on the Tony Hawk franchise, so they can put all their focus on the Guitar Hero brand.  Joel Jewett, let it be known that, “It’s probably best for the franchise … it’s time for someone else to add fresh ideas to it.”  So who will pick up the mantle for the recently rumored to have a skateboard peripheral Tony Hawk game?  No one is quite sure, but Giant Bomb seems to think it will be Robomodo.
