Mirror’s Edge Looks Awkward in Third Person

Submitted by Joe Haygood on January 28, 2009 – 12:38 pmComments

Mirror’s Edge is a beautiful work of art, that is a sight to see, as well as play.  On the PC however, people have found a way to change the aspect view of Mirror’s Edge from first person to third person view.  While it is nice to get a view of Faith for a screenshot or two, the overall vew of the game is not all that great.  Faith is not as flexable as she looks in the first person view, as her hips are going everywhere, and when she balances across pipes, she bends at the waist only.  it is funny to watch something that was meant for first person in the third person.  Hit the jump to find out how this is possible.

To get into the third person view take the following steps:

  • Go to Documents\EA Games\Mirror’s Edge\TdGame\Config\
  • Open the file TdInput with Notepad
  • Copy and paste this line to the bindings list: Bindings=(Name=”F4¿,Command=”FreeFlightC amera”,Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
  • Open the game, and press F4 a few times to cycle the camera modes.  There is a NoClip free camera mode, or the trailing view camera that you see in the video

You do have to realize that the game was not designed for this mode, so it does look ugly and awkward.  Most likely, the devs used this mode to look at movements of the main character, and her interaction with the world.  Also, when you use this mode, you will not be able to look up or down, which will make for a challenge when lining up certain jumps.
