Circuit City Goes Bust, Will Liquidate All Store Assets

Submitted by Joe Haygood on January 16, 2009 – 11:12 amComments

After limping through a dismal fouth quarter, the word has come down and it is not good for Circuit City.  Following the persistant rumors, Circuit City has decided to give up and liquidate all of its assets.  The rest of the stores that survived closings last December will now close.

While this is sad news, there is a bright spot for gamers, as this means there will be a lot of items going on sale at Circuit City shortly.  And unlike a lot of other stores, Circuit City actually has pretty good store closing sales, starting in at 20-30% off the normal prices.

This will leave Best Buy as the only nationwide, big box electronics retailer standing.  But with Best Buy also posting horrible numbers in the fourth quarter, one has to wonder if they might be going next.
