Age of Conan Is Getting a Server Cutback
By Joe Haygood | January 12, 2009
Remember when Age of Conan came out, and it was the cat’s meow with all the MMO players out there? People were calling Age of Conan the World of Warcraft killer, and that it set the new standard for MMORPG styled games. My, my, my how times can change for a game.
In under a year’s time, Age of Conan went from being the ultimate MMORPG, to a game that has lost its main producer, massive cuts in continuous subscribers, and now the sure sign that brighter days may be behind Age of Conan, a server consolidation.
While the European servers will be keeping their numbers consistant, US servers are being cut from 18, down to 6, a two-thirds cut from launch. Bugs, poor performance, missing features, and a general sense of malaise among subscribers are just some of the things that have seemed to affect Age of Conan’s subscriber retention rate. Will Age of Conan make it through to the end of 2009? Right now, it is looking less likely that it can.
