Prince of Persia Ships DRM Free

    By Joe Haygood | December 12, 2008

Well, we always here the arguement from people that they would buy so many more PC games if they would forego the horrendous DRM that is embedded in the game discs.  Well, PC gamers, now is the time to put up or shut up and show Ubisoft that they are doing us right.

Community Manager Chris “UbiRazz” Easton, over at Ubisoft has confirmed that all retail copies of Prince of Persia have shipped DRM free.  Yes, you read that right folks, the new Prince of Persia game on PC has shipped fully DRM free.

In his post, Chris states, “A lot of people complain that DRM is what forces people to pirate games but as PoP PC has no DRM we’ll see how truthful people actually are. Not very, I imagine.”  Well, he does not seem very optimistic, but I have to admit that he has a point.  World of Goo recently released without DRM on the PC, and has been estimated to have been pirated by 90% of the people that are playing it.

So PC gamers, this is your chance.  If you are interested in Prince of Persia on the PC, go out and buy it.  If Ubisoft sees that gamers really will pay for a game that has no DRM embedded in it, they will surely do it for more releases.  However, if you don’t then you will see more and more draconian attempts to lock down the games, or worse, just not see a PC release of the next game.

One also has to wonder if this was a make up for past issues that Ubisoft has had on the PC regarding DRM.  They were one of the first companies to utilize StarFucked Starforce disc protection, which would kill many PC DVD drives in the process or protecting the game.  Then they had the awful Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 fiasco where they ended up having to patch the DRM by authorizing a hackers No CD Crack to make the game work.  And then there were the phoning home issues with Assassins Creed DRM that ended up causing some performance issues for people that played the game.  Lets hope this is a new chapter for Ubisoft, and for PC gamers in general.  Oh, and just to make this easier, GoGamer.com has the new Prince of Persia on sale for $30, so make it happen already.
