Microsoft Has a New Hardware Issue: RRoZ

Submitted by on December 31, 2008 – 1:56 pmNo Comment

In the early hours of the morning, some people went to their 30GB Zune players and got a rather rude surprise.  The devices were stuck on an error message and no matter what they tried to do, the Zune player would not respond.

It seems that a hardware issue has decided to plague another Microsoft device.  In what some are calling “Z2K” or “RRoZ”, the 30GB Zune device cannot be used until MIcrosoft issues some sort of fix.

MIcrosoft initially did not say much in the way of the problem, until forum threads on the official Zune website numbered in the thousands of posts, at which time, Microsoft released a statement announcing the issue with the hardware.  There is no ETA as to when a fix will be in place, but anyone with a 30GB Zune is urged to keep up on the latest developments at www.zune.net/support.

After the hardware issues with the Xbox 360, and now with the Zune, are any other Microsoft hardware devices considered safe.  Will my mouse start scrolling the wrong way, or my gamepad stop firing?  Will Sync start only playing Barry Manilow?  Hopefully none of these come to pass and this is just a simple firmware snafu.
