Columbia Netflix issues “not specific to Xbox” says Sony

Submitted by Jeremy Yerby on November 20, 2008 – 5:01 pmComments

Following suit with Netflix’s earlier statement, Sony Pictures has now stated that the lack of Sony-owned Columbia Pictures’ films on the Xbox version of Netflix is a licensing issue that was not specifically targeted to peeve Xbox 360 owners. Heres the statement, speaking to MTV Multiplayer:

“This issue is not specific to Xbox or any other individual platform,” said a Sony Pictures spokesperson in an e-mailed statement. “Sony Pictures is currently in discussions with the relevant parties to resolve certain licensing matters related to the distribution of its motion pictures. Given the ongoing nature of these discussions, we don’t think it is appropriate to comment further at this time.”

If this indeed was not intentional but rather a passive licensing issue that can be solved in a timely manner, I will eat all the words I said about Sony being anti-consumer. Your move, Sony.
