The Shining Stars of the LittleBigPlanet beta
By Joe Fourhman | October 9, 2008

As the LittleBigPlanet beta heads toward the planned October 12 shutdown, people are panicking over whether or not their beta creations will survive. The official LBP site states that they are considering retaining the uploaded levels (in fact, there’s a user poll to that effect) but “any save game data, offline creations or progress cannot be transferred into the full game.”
So I have formally suspended work on my epic Wild West level. I suppose if I want to save any of it, I could upload a half-finished level but put all of the fabricated elements into prize bubbles. You’ll understand that later once you get the game.
Richard has already posted his impressions of the beta, so I thought I’d spotlight some of the more interesting user levels I’ve found… and whether they will survive this upcoming LittleBigWeekend of Death remains to be seen. Screenshots and credits after the jump.

Metal Gear Solid: Return to Shadow Moses - Bearskopff
Homages to other games are everywhere. GTA, Super Mario Bros, Uncharted, Sonic… and this loving tribute to Metal Gear Solid. You’ll sneak behind inattentive guards and drop in on Meryl, just like in the original.

Sweet Child O’ Mine - Nick-Fuzzeh
This is more of a proof-of-concept than an actual level, but you’ll want to do it over and over again. You climb onto a car that zooms past musical note triggers that play the intro to the Guns ‘n’ Roses song.

LittleBIG Ninja Warrior - Burning_Out
An able recreation of the Japanese obstacle course TV show. The Warped Wall is quite a bit easier here than in real life.

Hollow Bastion - DavisTheDarkest
Not particularly related to Kingdom Hearts and the word balloons are in Italian, but it’s a nice, tight, atmospheric horror level.

DinoLand - Celozia
It’s silly and easy, but packed with giant dinosaur robots.

Patapon meets sackboy - Covertaction
The best part about this one is the giant Patapon characters.

rollercoaster - Doekeh
A good example of LittleBigIngenuity. The coaster is a wheel fitted with rockets.

Walmart Swap - JimmyHACK
Rabid fanboyism is already well in place in LittleBigPlanet as PS3 patriots rush to rag on the 360. Perhaps the silliest of this admittedly apoplectic lot is this level, where your goal is to see how fast you can ride a busted 360 to Walmart for a trade-in.

Election - Aeropause’s own Richard!
Rock your vote, LBP-style! Richard built these giant Obama and McCain automatons and set up triggered events based on which candidate gets your support.
