Doki Doki 2 arrives with bonus saucy trading card

    By Joe Fourhman | October 19, 2008

You might recall I ordered famed witch-touching sequel Doki Doki Majo Shinpan 2 Duo last month, back when Play-Asia.com had the thing on sale for $20. It arrived this week and I got to touchin’.

Play-Asia.com was nice enough to include a pleasant giveaway with my order: a heat-sensitive trading card of Kureha, the first witch you encounter in the game. Read on for a slightly alluring photo of what happens when you heat up her suspiciously opaque black pullover, as well as my first impressions of this oddball import DS title.

I love the “Touch Body!!” graphic.

So far, I’ve played the game for two and a half hours, and I have touched exactly two witches. The game sure does make you grind for those scant few minutes of witch-touching. The basic structure is, you wander around a map trying to gather evidence that proves Random Anime Girl is a witch. Once you confront her with this evidence, you’re challenged to a humdrum little boss fight, and then the main event begins.

Weakened by the boss fight, Random Anime Girl displays herself across both DS screens, cycling through various positions (all 2D artwork) depending on your touching is going. Eventually you touch her enough and in the right places, and the round ends with her revealing her secret witch’s tattoo.

It sounds way sleazier than it actually is, trust me. I have yet to see anything that could be considered pornographic and I fully expect there will be nothing of the sort in the game. It’s just manga girls in their underwear, the occasional heaving bosom, and a sprinkling of labored breathing sound samples.

I know I should have been prepared for this game’s intense mood-killing anti-foreplay after reading all the thumbs-down reviews of the first Doki Doki Majo Shinpan (and a quick glance at the stacks of hentai PC games that work nearly identically, but DO go into porn territory)… but it is truly astonishing how much time is wasted as you work your way to the boss fights. I’m sure I’m at a disadvantage since I can’t read the Japanese text, but I have to point out that I’m hitting the skip button! If I was actually reading all the text, it would take even longer to go through!

Anyway, let’s hear it for the DS having a wide enough userbase that there’s a market for this sort of thing.
