AC/DC Rock Band Pack Hitting Walmart/Sam’s Club Shelves This Weekend
Well, this is the weekend when we are all suppose to run out blindly to our closest Walmart or Sam’s Club and get our copy of the AC/DC Rock Band pack for the everyday low price of $39.98. Looking at that price and comparing it to what I paid for Rock Band 2, I have to assume that I am getting a ton of AC/DC content.
Except you are not. You are getting a grand total of 18 tracks of AC/DC rock. So lets do some math here. I get 18 tracks in Rock Band AC/DC for $40, but I get 85 tracks in Rock Band 2 for $60. Not to mention that the 20 free tracks for Rock Band 2 are ready for download next Tuesday, bringing the actual total of songs for that $60 up to 105 tracks.
I have been a pretty big defender of Harmonix and their strategy with Rock Band, but now with the ridiculous price of this pack, along with me having to walk into one of the worst retailers ever to buy it, sucks. Mix that in with The Beatles game, which we now know will not interface with Rock Band 2, and we now have a lot of suckiness coming out of Harmonix. I have a hard time trying to give props up for a game that wants to be a platform, but is slowly starting to go down the Guitar Hero path of releasing disc packs to make extra money off of the consumer.
I am sure this thing will sell pretty nicely, as it does interface with Rock Band and Rock Band 2, and there are probably enough AC/DC fans out there that want to play a lot of these tracks, but I would hope they can resist the urge to buy this obvious money grab. Come on Harmonix, you can do your customers better than this. Just stick to milking us on the DLC. At least you know we all love that stuff, as we have bought into that route, hook, line and sinker.
