PC Gamer Skips DRM Note for Spore

Submitted by Joe Haygood on September 15, 2008 – 10:55 pmComments

One of the things that PC Gamer magazine has been doing with their review section as of late is putting flyover notes that mention DRM issues that come with the reviewed game.  I started noticing these DRM notes a couple of months ago, and do appreciate them.  While I have never had an issue with DRM, it is nice to know that people can see this and decide whether the DRM is worth the hassle or not.

Well, when I got my recent issue of PC Gamer in the mail late last week, I saw that they were offering up a six to eight page spread covering Spore, and its review.  So as I read everything PC Gamer had to offer up about Spore, i noticed one thing that was missing in the review: mention of the DRM.

Now it may be that PC Gamer was working with review code, or printing happened long before the DRM issue came up, but I would think that they guys and gals over at PC Gamer would ask the question about DRM for their review, so they could warn about the DRM in the game.  I am always one to speculate, so I wonder if EA politely asked for the DRM note to be omitted from the review, or if it was a genuine oops on the part of PC Gamer.  Guess we will find out with the next PC Gamer podcast, or next issue of the magazine.
