Inside Detailings of the RROD Debacle
By Joe Haygood | September 7, 2008
A friend of mine just pointed me in the direction of a great expose article that discusses the problems, concerns and ultimate failure of Microsoft in getting a working console to market before their competitors. Dean Takahashi interviewed a lot of Microsoft engineers and employees to get an inside look at the poor yields, warehouses filled with unusable consoles as well as a desire to fit a five year design cycle into four.
Also, Dean talks with several Xbox 360 owners that became famous for the number of consoles they had to send in for repair. It is a bit long, but is well worth checking out due to the wealth of information as well as the intrigue of what goes through a company’s mind when they are so focused on a goal, they skip prudent QA steps.
