Folding@Home Becomes Life With PlayStation

Life With PlayStation is now available worldwide, but you wouldn’t know it unless (a) you read about it online or (b) you run Folding@Home on your PS3. That’s because it’s actually an upgrade for Folding@Home. To get it, run the Folding program from the XMB and it will do the upgrade.

There are quite a few nifty features here, and while it shows you a very pretty earth dotted with cities and weather for each city you can use the controller to move around and read news associated with each. Click a headline and a browser window opens to show you what it’s all about. All the while your PS3 is crunching numbers trying to cure various diseases, putting a useful face on the Folding project. There is music available while it plays, which you can choose from different moods like you could on the old Folding application, and the video tour seems to show icons relating to choosing your own custom playlist from your Music section of the XMB, but I haven’t tried that yet.

Seen on the PlayStation Blog.
