Every puzzle has a solution. And this one is now over.

I think the “weekly WiFi puzzle” DLC for Nintendo’s “Professor Layton and the Curious Village” is officially over. I recently fired up the DS game – for the first time in months – in order to grab the latest puzzle downloads, and noted that the last WiFi puzzle released dated from mid-August.
Which is exactly what Nintendo World Report predicted back in March when they ran a story about a DS hacker who managed to locate all of the so-called WiFi puzzles, neatly hidden on the game pak. Nintendo pulled a bit of a fast one here, making you think you were downloading new puzzles when in fact you were merely downloading a miniscule key that unlocked the content according to their weekly schedule. No wonder the progress bar went so quickly!
It’s tough to get to TOO upset about it… it’s not like Nintendo charged anything for the DLC. It’s just sort of lame. Presumably Nintendo will keep the online keys active, so if you buy the game today, you can unlock the entire set of WiFi puzzles in one go.
What in the world is stopping Nintendo from offering up a Brain Age Channel or a Professor Layton Channel on Wii? Release new puzzles on a regular basis, incorporate Miis, allow some puzzles to be pushed to a DS to take advantage of DS features, put up leaderboards and stat-tracking, allow you to challenge your Wii Friends… I’d go $10 for that.
And also, I want Professor Layton in the next Smash Bros.
