EA Buckles Second Time: Spore Patch To Allow 5 Screen Names Per Copy

EA has buckled again to the firestorm of protest (some creatively using the creatures themselves) over their DRM. This time it’s about being allowed to only have one Spore Online Account per copy of the game. Families everywhere were upset about this, and once again EA has come out with a new statement promising to address this.

The manual, as Joe noted recently, said you could have more than one account, and EA had already said that was a misprint, sorry, one per customer. This, I thought, would be the end of it.

Instead they have partially reversed themselves and decided that while there will be one Spore Online Account, there can be up to five Spore Screen Names within that Account. This will, as VoodooExtreme so delicately put it, allow mom and dad’s naughty-looking creations to not be seen by the little ones playing the game too.

So far EA has agreed to:
1. allow customers to reclaim their 3 game installs by de-authorizing a computer.
2. have five screen names per Spore Online Account

Granted that these are promises and there’s no date given for when the patch is coming, but it still surprised the heck out of me to see it.
