Opinion coming: I mean, whatever.
There’s some nice write-ups at Kotaku, but the Move announcements smell like more motion-controlled crap mini-games. How is it that something like this can launch four years after the Wii came …

Star Trek to Boldly Go Online With MMO

After years of sitting in the purgatory that was Perpetual Studios, Cryptic had a public showing for the new game they have been working on, and it was not Champions.  They are still working on Champions, but now they have another project, and it is the Star Trek MMO.

The Star Trek MMO, looks to blend space combat as well as boots on the ground combat.  Each player will be put in charge of a spaceship, starting with something a bit small, and working their way up the ranks to a large ship, similar to the Enterprise.  The action in the video above is all done in engine and played in the offices of Cryptic.  The game looks really good, and Cryptic says that they are farther along than most think, while skirting the question of a release date.

I have to say that I am a bit torn about a Star Trek MMO, as I felt this way once before only to be slighted by the game.  I was all hyped for Star Wars Galaxies, and jumped into the game, only to feel completely bored by the experience.  Star Trek could beat this wrap by continuing to build the whole Starfleet Command vs. Klingon council.  Cryptic has also stated they will add new galaxies to the game on a regular basis, which will allow player to engage in the primary mission, to seek out new planets and races.

I think there is room for this game to succeed, but again it will have to offer lots of content and a true Star Trek experience.  It would be nice if your crew could be player characters that would work their ways through the ranks, but I could see abuse coming from that kind of system.  It will have a dedicated fanbase that will subscribe day one, but to become a huge success, they will have to get people like me, that are intrigued about a Star Trek MMO, but feel jaded by the previous experiences we have had in a space faring MMO from a galaxy far far away.
