Mirror’s Edge Use of Color Worries Me

If you haven’t seen any footage of Mirror’s Edge then you need to check out this link and watch the footage before reading any further….go on I’ll wait. Looks cool huh? I agree the graphics are outstanding and the first person gameplay is quite new and exciting. There is just one problem for me, I’m colorblind! Now that doesn’t mean I can’t see colors, it just means I sometimes have a hard time telling them apart. Mirror’s edge let’s you know where to go next by making things appear in the color red, a color that eludes me from time to time. From the videos that I have seen so far the game doesn’t look to tricky to navigate, but we have barely seen anything from the game. I am really excited for this game, but I hope that the designers thought of us colorblind folk and might include the option to make the same objects slightly glow or something else that would make it easy for me to see where to go next.

Maybe I am just overeacting and this might not really be an issue, but I would hate to pick up the game and not be able to find my way out of a situation because of my condition. There are many colorblind gamers and it would be nice if sooner or later adding a colorblind option to a game was something standard. That would be a world where I could actually use the radar is Halo 3, where I could play color macthing puzzle games, and where I can stop team killing because I didn’t notice you were red!
