Games for Windows Live Game Support Picks Up Two New Titles
The Games for Windows Live service has had a bumpy ride from its lauded launch last May, but now, after 14 months are we finally starting to see a good flow of games that support the serivce. Today, while at Gamespot near my house, I saw two game boxes that showed GFWLive suppor that I had not seen or heard of up to this point.
It seems that CD Projekt has Live Enabled The Witcher Enhanced Edition according to the pre-order box shots that were on the shelves. Obviously that means it could change, but with the game coming out late September, it is highly doubtful. The other title, which I did not even realize was coming to the PC, was James Bond: Quantum of Solace. There was no box shot, but the new posters they had up, showed the Games for Windows Live banner next to the 360 and PS3 logos.
With the service moving to a free model and a new interface and marketplace coming this fall, the Games for Windows Live service is finally starting to take off with the developers. Look at the lineup for this fall of GFW Live titles that will be available.
- Grand Theft Auto IV
- Dawn of War II
- Battlestations: Pacific
- Fallout 3
- The Witcher Extended Edition
- James Bond: Quantum of Solace
- Flatout: Ultimate Carnage
So in one quarter, we are getting the same amount of games for the service as we did in the first 14 months of its livespan. Hmmmm, makes me wonder what could have been if Microsoft would have made the service free in the first place, as the achievements alone make it worth people buying the game. I will keep looking for more games that will suppor the GFW Live service, as I for one, like the idea of getting achievements on my PC.
