Xbox Live Fall Update

Submitted by Shane on July 15, 2008 – 8:38 pmComments

Get ready for a whole new learning curve this Fall on your Xbox 360. Yesterday, during the Microsoft demonstration at E3, a truckload of new features came to fruition: The most obvious addition is the 3D interface which I quite like and is somewhat consistent with Media Center and Vista but still has its own flare. Then there’s the custom Avatar creator which some of you may feel borrows from other well known consoles, Netflix integration (Will other Countries get this feature?), Xbox Live Prime Time Channel and many, many more. Oh yeah and the guide with the blades is still around:

  • Chuck
All you people that are complaining about this, you haven't even tried it yet. It could be awesome. I used to have a Wii (sold it for a Xbox) and when I got it I thought the Mii thing was awesome. Even though this does sound like Microsoft just trying to steal Nintendo's customers by copying their product, I'm going to try it out to see if its any good, BEFORE bitching about it.

WHEN IS IT COMING OUT >(
  • djfizzy91
The avatars can be customized and you will unlock new clothing like achievements i personally think that's awesome. So all you haters why don't you wait for the update then start hate.
  • Josh
this is not like coverflow. it is more like windows Aero than anything. they obviously didnt rip that because they own it. so with that out of the way i would like to say im am looking foward to this update because of the sleek and ALOT smoother interface.
  • phil zebleckis
well for all of you guys dogging on the xbox 360, obviously you are interested and saw how AWESOME the new setup is going to be and just because your ps3 doesnt have the online capability like the xbox dont get mad..................FAGS i dont hate ps3 but the internet sux on it compared to xbox sorry!
  • It's an update people, calm down. unless nintendo or apple has copyrights on the whole genre of software they can't do shit. I wasn't aware that nintendo invented avatars.

-Zach's comment made me laugh. he made fun of someone for spelling something wrong and yet in that very sentence he spelled something wrong.....goodjob dumbfuck.

    black people =]

Dave Evans you are such a stoopid hypocryte. YOU ARE COMPLAINING SO STFU!! and this seems cool.
  • Dave Evans
ok so most ppl commenting on this are cryin because....why?i really dont get it.if you only want to game....then game.you still can nothings changed.Taking part in TV shows on your console.Revolutionary.if you dont like it then dont take part.your not being forced to.also if you dont like your avatar dont use it.you can still use your gamerpics.

Microsoft is only reaching out to another "audience/gamer" with all the new ideas. This increase in revenue will, ok make theyre wallets fatter, but also allow the guys at MS to develop even more cool things for us.

Why is everyone always worried about change?Your gonna get left behind...........
  • paul walll
i think the netflix idea is the best they have now. i mean..being able to watch any movie at any time with 8 or less people in the room is pretty kickass. that is..if you have netflix.....i dooo =]

Everyone that has complained in this BLOG is an IDIOT! Why does everyone have to bash and trash anything new that comes out. Do you honestly think that it's possible to create a device that perfectly suites anyone??

I think it's a very awesome product that they are creating with this dashboard because now it's just not another gaming station but it's a TRUE entertainment center for ANYONE.

Go back to your pong or commodore if you don't like change.

These avatars would be better if they were more customisable. The Avatar creation options resemble the Wii so much. I would place money that to get the Avatar you want.....you will need to pay more for it. I know that since the iphone the minimalist look is in fashion but that is on a mobile device that needs to be easy to use. The new dashboard just looks a little boring to me.

And before you tell me that “anything you know I know better” - I like what I like so flame away if it makes you feel important.
  • KE
dyffy, how can you prefer the old dashboard to the new one if you haven't even used the new one?
  • Zach
    Nate -

ur a dumb ass, and how the hell has it revolutionized the gaming world? even if they didnt get the idea from the MII (highly unlikly) its still the same fucking idea... Also, dont speak for all of us, i LOVE my gamertag (its a grunt fromt halo =D) so when u say "the majority" get an actual statistic... "I own all 3 new systems(actually have every system ever released)" ok...sure...

    Mark-

its whine, not wine... Nintendo is not "girly ass" its just more family based now...to some regret and jelous no... how is complaining about features sucking jelousy?
  • z S P FI D E z
Hey, this is great, 1st off. Nintendo didn't invent the avatars, 2nd, another reason why Xbox is gangster and just copy people and make into something better.
  • Woof26
i don't mind the new interface and saving games to your hardrive, but the avatar thing keeps reminding me of the 8 year olds online that cuss me out and almost start crying just because i beat them in a deathmatch game.
  • dyffy
    it looooks dull
the avator thing seem kinda sad can we choose with the original dashboard and the new one?
    i hope so
cus i prefer the old one dashboard to this new one
  • Ivan Shade
Oh, John Fourhman, my heart goes out to you.

With your first comments I thought that you were a prick.
I have a lot of friends that spent the 600, thinking that it would pay off. They feel the same as you.

Anyways, I feel as though xbox is attempting to change up their game a bit to make it more fun.

As far as the avatars, their may well be plenty of options we have yet to see. Cell-shading, 2D, anime, may all be possible. Don't fool yourselves into believing that this video shows all of the new features. Probably not even close. Hell, as long as I can stick horns and red eyes on mine, I dont really care.

Bottom line, I say we all wait and see. It may be cool, it may suck. I just think its awesome that it'll be different.
  • Mark
Wow it would be nice if you all would quit bitching at the 360 sounds like you are just jealous of the new features and want to wine about it. So if you don't like xbox go play your girly ass Nintendo Wii or your piece of Shit PS3.
  • Nate
This messege is a response to Joe Fourhman.

You must be the most self righteous apple/sony fan in the world. You think that Microsoft created the avatars as an answer to the Mii's? If this is what you honestly think then I think you need to go get your head checked because if you do enough research(like a real person with an opinion), then you would find that the Mii(Avatars for 360)concept(Microsofts are done by RARE) has revolutionized the way we interact in the video game world. If you think that people do not enjoy the fact that they can create a character of there own liking without massive knowledge of programming then you are sorely mistaken. The majority of the us 360 owners are kind of fed up with our "gamertags" and would like the new fresh start. And just so you realize that I'm not some avid Microsoft backer, I own all 3 new systems(actually have every system ever released) and to be honest the system with the most upturn in an all around fashion is hands down the 360. The Wii is spectacular but there are a few glitches that hamper the experience.
  • It sounds like the Avatar element isn't a love/hate issue - it's a hate issue. You actually don't have to use the new guide if you don't want. It's an option: http://xboxfocus.com/news/618-using-new-dashboa...
  • Devin
Personally, I don't really care about the avatars, I'm just not diggin' the new "friends list". Its just gonna be a group of those avatars and its going to be difficult to see who's who and all that crap.

I really like the new look tho, and I like the coverflow feature, because I love how it looks on my iTunes and iPod.

I just hope you can change backgrounds and your Gamerpicture.. because correct me if I'm wrong... thousands of people have purchased THEMES and PICTURES for appros 150 MC points. Its still money.. but are they going ot rip us off?

    iunno......
  • This is a joke to xbox 360 true gammers. We dont want this family bullshit and netflix. We want quick and easy online gaming action and most of all ACHIEVEMENTS!!!! Please im me on WARPEDSET and talk to me about this.
  • syst3m
I really hope they've not obsoleted my theme purchases with this new update. :/
And if not, then why the dull boring background on the default?
  • I would like to know who created the online Avatar.
