Xbox 360 Fall Update 2008, Questions Answered

Major Nelson and co-host “e”, which I think is his actual Gamertag, answer questions about the upcoming Xbox 360 Experience update coming this fall – to which we have a video for here. To give you an idea of how far the Dashboard has come since the Fall 2007 update, check out all the old updates, compared to the new (in the video link above):

Xbox Originals game download service, Family Timer parental control feature, and expanded social networking experiences. Xbox 360 owners can also look forward to enhanced navigation, profile, and video features and Xbox LIVE® Arcade Hits.

Notice I highlighted “enhanced navigation”.

I like some of this, but the miitards have to go. I can't stand them. I don't need a goofy avatar to represent me int he game world. And while they say miivatards are optional, I can see games being developed that will require them, like 1 vs. 100 and the like. I like the look of the interface and if you give me a way to use my themes and gamer pics, I am good. If I need to have a miivatard to do anything, I will be upset.

I can't wait for this update. I don't mind the avatars, as long as i can keep my gamerpic! The main thing i'm looking forward to is the fact you can download your games to the hard drive and run them from there.

Finally a fix for gta iv on a benq drive?

If you hate it so much (without even trying it), don't get the update. Unplug your 360 from live, and ignore the fact that the world changes.

what would be even better than those avatars would be actual animated game characters such as Marcus Fenix, Master Chief or Alex Vance.

Hey do any of you know how to get the latest update (august 6th) because I cant seem to find it on the internet (I dont have xbox live)

The update that took place earlier this month only updated strings of code to get ready for the fall release. You will not be able to tell a difference until the big update in late Sept early Oct.

This is all part of a bet Bill Gates had with his friends.

Gates, whilst drinking, was heard to proclaim the the gaming community is so stupid that he, being clearly intellectually superior, could easily get them to pay him money in exchange for digital clothing for cartoon avatars. He went on to boast that he would not only charge them for outfits, but would charge them for the priviledge to download those outfits by way of subsciption.

Glad to see you pull it off Bill. I only hope that you offer plus sizes for the portly Xbox Mii.

if you have a data migration kit for your xbox 360 then if you download xport 360 and connect your HDD to your computer you can get into the system update folder with the current system update in there so if you downloaded the 2008 fall update and just unzipped it into the wouldn't you have just installed it onto your console so next time you turn on your xbox it would be installed. by the way this is on retail consoles!!!!.

the update will be done in about a half hour. I perrsonally, am excited for the update and I always like changes... It keeps things interesting and I herd new features will be arriving like an 8 person chat

the new update on the dashbaord sounds good but i dobt its on today if it was it would take longer to do dontcha think ? and if it was the dashboard and 8 way chat it would be alot of memory to donwload ?? :S gamertag: zI Ancient Iz

All right xbox goes by pacific time and its 5:45am there and 7:45 here and i turned on my xbox and....same dashboard!!!

yeah, turned my box on, all excited for this fantastic update, when i load games theres NO update, what did they do, flip the off switch and forget to turn it back on for 26 hours... come on release the dashboard!!!!!
