Where’s the Wii?
By Shane | July 23, 2008
The Wii is still a hot commodity after 2 years on the market since its release. The US is still finding it difficult to find one but the shortages haven’t prevented the Wii from becoming the top console seller in the world at 10.9 million sold to date with 2.4 million produced this year. Most people I talk to say it hasn’t been that hard to find one - but maybe it’s a marketing technique Nintendo is using. Did you wait anxiously for your Wii?
Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s global president and CEO:
“We are really intending to increase the shipments to the U.S., especially compared to last year,” “However, I can’t give you a 100% commitment [that you'll be able to find a Wii this holiday season]. What I can commit myself to is that Nintendo is going to do its best to supply as many Wii hardware units as possible in order to meet demand there.”

It’s worth noting that the US market market is now second tier to Japan and Europe, as well as potentially other nations, due to the weakness of the US dollar. If demand is strong in multiple areas, why waste inventory on a location where your profit is devalued in translation to the Yen?

Very true Christian
Thanks to Bush! Ahh but he has about 6 months left to ruin the country.

The Wii isn’t hard to find anymore. It might take a couple of trips to get one, but you can. Wii Fit, however, is nearly impossible to get right now.

Paul: Is that because everyone wants to get in shape?

My local Toys R Us still posts poorly-typed notices on their door when they have a Sunday shipment… like “We have 60 Wii Bundles arriving Sunday, first come, first serve, handing out tickets at 8am.” And they are all gone before the store even opens. This happens at least twice a month.

I have to agree with Paul as it is getting more common to find them in stores. I have found them at several Target’s by my house, as well as at a Walmart. Best Buy still seems to be out of them regularly, except when they do their flyers that announce they have them in stock. Even my sister in law found some at a Target by her house. I guess Target is the place to go for Wiis.
