Rut Ro: PS3 Firmware 2.40 Pulled
Did you get Firmware 2.40 when it hit last night just before midnight Eastern Standard Time? I did, and eagerly watched my PS3 finish the download, then go to reboot and install. The screen went dark and the system hung there, green light on. Not sure what to make of it, I left it alone for a few minutes, and then reset it by holding the power button down. It shut down, telling me it wasn’t totally hung, came back on, patched itself up, and was ready to go. Other folks weren’t so lucky.
Apparently the update has been just about bricking a variety of systems, so much so that Sony has officially pulled the firmware from their servers. One unofficial solution has to do with erasing the hard drive and letting the system reinstall itself and re-patch itself, but you’ll want to click on through for those stories. Of course if you didn’t back up your saved games (*gulp*) you lose those along with your videos and such. You do back up your data, right?
So now we wait for 2.41.

Didn’t grab it when it was up, but I have to point out that several of the firmware updates have crashed like it did for you several times for me.
I guess I am glad that I don’t play my PS3 much…looks like I might have kept from screwing it up.
I did but I don’t seem to have any problems as of yet.
Huh. Mine is fine as well. Already noticed some friends with Stardust trophies on their Gamercard %D%D%D%D Profile card.
Anyone heard any recent notices on this? I know I was REALLY looking forward to parts of the in-game XMB content. I’ve been checking for the past day or so and my PS3 sorely only tells me that I have the latest firmware
.
Mike, Sony has said to watch the official Blog for details on when 2.40 will be restored for people to download.
