Flashing NES Fix, No Cartridge Blowing

Way of the Geek has discovered a way, through an extensive 8 step tutorial complete with warnings and electronic dissection, to fix the “original red ring of doom” complete with flashing power LED and multi-colored screens. Does anyone still play a NES aside from Way of the Geek? Well for those who still have an ancient, dusty NES and play it to this day, maybe Way of the Geek is onto something with a guide like this:

“It actually has nothing to do with dust or corrosion on the cartridge contacts (though make no mistake, that could certainly be a factor as well). It’s all thanks to what was arguably the most unique design feature of the original NES-001 Control Deck – the Zero-Insertion Force (ZIF) cartridge slot.”

Oh and don’t try the age old: blowing-on-the-cartridge-trick, that won’t work.

  • i did it
    rather than repairing the connector, you can buy a new one for like #$7 on eBay. much easier and more reliable.
