Flagship Dissolved; Hellgate and Mythos Have New Homes In Korea
By Paul Munn | July 12, 2008
VoodooExtreme has followed the Flagship Studios scuffle to its completion, and it has ended with the complete shutdown and dissolution of the studio and the handoff of their two games to Korean companies at least partially due to loan agreement terms Flagship took. Comerica has taken over Hellgate and Hanbit has taken over Mythos, by far the more interesting of the two games. There’s no word on what kind of English support those games will continue to get, but Hanbit has expressed an interest to keep developing Mythos since it’s gotten quite a bit of positive press recently.
I’ve been in the Mythos beta for some time now and think it shows a lot of promise, especially with its micropayment ideas. Having it fall into third party development hands and having the original designers at Flagship disappear from the equation — including the mastermind behind the cult hit Fate that was guiding Mythos — doesn’t make me confident that it’s going to see a proper release anytime soon. Blizzard may get Diablo III out the door before Mythos launches after all.
