Chrono Trigger DS teaser shows it’s “just” a port

Submitted by Stephen Munn on July 6, 2008 – 6:04 pmComments

This Japanese teaser trailer for Chrono Trigger DS shows a lot of concept art and some amount of footage from the game, all of which appears identical to the SNES version of the game from more than a decade ago. I’ll consider that confirmation that this won’t be a beautiful 3D-ified version of the game, à la Final Fantasy III or Final Fantasy IV for DS, or even the pretty remakes of Dragon Quest IV through VI that are headed to the system. As I mentioned in the podcast, it’s hard to imagine how they could do a remake without breaking this, as the source material is so flawless, but at the same time, it feels a little bit lazy.

Square-Enix has also launched a website which forwards from the old CTDS location and features the trailer.
