CD Projekt Rejuvenates Old Games DRM Free At Gog.com
By Joe Haygood | July 10, 2008
CD Projekt, the makers of the highly successful RPG, The Witcher, have decided to get into the game sales business, but not in the normal sense of the word. It seems that they have a fond eye for the classics, as they are taking some of the greatest hits of yesteryear and making them completely compatible with XP and Vista, while selling them DRM-free.
GOG.com, or as the site states it, Good Old Games, will start off with a good mix of Codemasters and Interplay titles, that include the Fallout games, Sacrifice, MDK, Colin McRae Rally 2005 and even Operation Flashpoint. Titles will sell for anywhere between $5.99 and $9.99 and will include extras like mp3 soundtracks, game guides, map editors and a lot more.
The biggest selling point for me so far with this is the DRM free nature of the content, as well as the guarantee that the games will run natively in Vista. Add in full support for every title, and you have what could be, a great new service, that might replace Gametap in my eyes. Full classic games, with no subscription and no hassle over ownership.
Check out Good Old Games right now, and sign up for their upcoming beta test, currently scheduled for August.
