Surprise! Eleven years later, here comes Mega Man 9. Yay?

Destructoid’s Ron NSFWorkman (ho ho) brought rumor-flavored word not long ago that he’d received a tip saying Mega Man 9 would be announced shortly in the form of a downloadable title for 360 and PlayStation 3. Of course, that’s a rumor, so who knows what the real deal is, right? Turns out Siliconera’s Spencer has spotted the title’s rating on the AU equivalent of ESRB, known as the OFLC. A G rating, by the way, which I figure is like E.

The natural response here is excitement, but hold up a second. Mega Man jumped the shark at 3, and it’s been downhill since then. Mega Man 8 actually featured a weapon that had you kicking a soccer ball at enemies, à la Mega Man Soccer. While the X series and the Zero series were both pretty good in general (especially Zero which was flat-out awesome) and ZX is supposed to be great too, the original line kind of fell apart pretty early on.

As a mega fan, I hate to say it, but I’m not sure this is good news.
