Official “Pick A DS Game for Joe Haygood To Play” Contest

Submitted by Joe Haygood on June 2, 2008 – 9:20 pmComments

EDITED: Added Professor Layton to the list, feel free to change your vote if you already submitted a title.  We will extend the contest by a couple of days to reflect this.

Okay, if anyone can remember back to Podcast number 29, Levi and George kind of ganged up on me about why I could not see myself getting into DS gaming.  The concept seemed strange, and the device just looks alien to me.  Stranger is the fact that I have a daily commute on the Los Angeles Metrolink train system, so you would think the mobile platform would just be a given for someone like myself.

Well, I have decided that I should give the Nintendo DS a chance to shine, and why not get the Aeropause community involved as well.  So Aeropause is going to hold a contest to select a game for me to play on my wife’s DS.  The game that gets the most votes will be the game that I play, but to spice it up a bit, we will have a prize of $40 in either Microsoft Point cards, Wii Point cards, PS3 Gift points, Steam Gift game, DS Game or PSP game going to one of the people that submit a vote.

First off, you have to pick from a list of existing games that my wife owns, because I am not going to run out and buy a game only to hate it and lose any value.  Also, your entry must be mailed to tips@aeropause.com by June 20th 25th, 2008.  The winner will be announced on the podcast we record that weekend and in written form the following week the day that the podcast goes live.

Here is the list of games to choose from.  It is not a huge list but it covers a varied spectrum of the DS game types:

Dementium The Ward
Nintendogs: Lab and Friends
Animal Crossing: Wild World
Trace Memory
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Lost in Blue
Platinum Sudoku
Cooking Mama
Lost in Blue 2
Picross DS
Trauma Center: Under The Knife
Touch Detective
Brain Age
My Word Coach
Professor Layton

So get to entering and tell me what I should play.

  • I was wrong. Elite Beat Agents is the best. Kirby Canvas Curse is number 2.
  • You mean Shane haha. Nah, I saw another pic of you a while back and the two don't match. I think this is your decoy.
  • Stephen, are you saying I am not photogenic? It took me hours in photoshop just to get it looking that decent. Not much you can do with a mug like this. Why do you think the DS is in front of me.
  • StephenJMunn
Kirby Canvas Curse, Matthew? Seriously? I liked the game, but the best DS game... seriously? I don't think it would make my top ten.
  • Joe that's not a pic of you is it??
  • Sheesh, no Elite Beat Agents or Pokemon Diamond/Pearl?

Hope like hell you don't get Lost in Blue. Stinkeroo.
  • I'm probably exempt from the prize but I vote Trauma Center anyhow.

Kirby Canvas Curse is the best DS game ever created, though, but that isn't on the list.
  • StephenJMunn
In all fairness, Nintendogs is actually a very good game. Early in the DS' life it showed some of the really impressive things that could be done with the DS' odd functions, like teaching your dog to do tricks when you command it in the microphone. Unfortunately the experience was harmed by some odd design choices, but it hasn't stopped the various packages from selling millions of copies.

That said, it's not a game for people like me and Joe.
  • No biggie Stephen. People will just add it to the pile of mistakes I have made. And yes Sifer, no matter what is voted on, I will play it. When you listen to the podcast, you will hear what I had to say about Nintendogs.
  • Sifer2400
if enought people vote for nintendogs your going to play it? lawllll were expecting a review of the game
  • StephenJMunn
Yeah, George wasn't on for that podcast. I remember, it was me and Levi. I think you should play Dementium: The Ward, but Animal Crossing is also great for consuming your existence for months at a time.
  • StephenJMunn
Joe, I was going to mention this to you on Podcast 34, but I wasn't sure. The more time goes on, the more confident I am it wasn't George and Levi but me and Levi. Maybe George or Levi can confirm that for me.
