I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.

New Rise of the Argonauts Trailer

Codemasters released a new trailer today, showing off their new action/rpg game, Rise of the Argonauts.  You play as Jason, king of the kingdom, Iolcus.  Jason’s is suppose to get married, but on the day of the wedding, is wife to be, Alceme, is downed by an assassins arrow. Now, the only thing that can save her is a mythical Golden Fleece that is located on the Isle of Tantarus.  The Golden Fleece is rumored to have the ability to bring the dead back to life, so Jason and his band of soldiers, nicknamed The Argonauts, go on an epic journey to recover the Golden Fleece.  The Argonauts include Hercules, Achilles, Atalanta and Pan, all humans that have had their lives influenced by the gods at one point in their lives.

This game has been a curiosity of mine for awhile now.  It was announced about a year ago, but not much has been said since that announcement.  The engine looks really good and the action in the trailer as of now has a great flow to it.  Greek mythology is one of those subjects that has been sorely underused by game developers, so there is a lot of room to improvise with this game.  About the only complaint I can lodge at the game right now is that Hercules looks a little strange.  He has this huge upper body, but it tapers down far too small for his lower half.  It could just be a bad perspective in the trailer, but they might need to work on that a bit.  Look for the game in the fall of 2008.
