Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

Google On Your PS3

Submitted by on June 29, 2008 – 7:54 pm3 Comments

Google is finally releasing free software that will stream photos, videos and music directly from your computer onto your TV via Google Desktop. Additionally, the Media Server can transmit videos from websites such as YouTube onto your TV. Once you’re set up, Google can patch into the media functions of your PS3 or Xbox 360 and send it videos the same way Apple TV has done in the past.

I can see this functionality useful for us gamers when we need a walkthrough video or we want to check out a trailer for a game without having to get off our butts and head to the computer. The application is still in beta form at this point and it may not take off judging from the official Media Server discussion forums.

Maybe I am mistaken, but can’t you already stream video, audio and pictures to the PS3 via you computer. I know the 360 does it via media player or media center. But I thought the PS3 had something similar. The only upside I see here is getting YouTube videos, but it seems that is not working as stable as some would like.

Joe, you are correct. You can stream/share audio, video, and pictures to the PS3 using the same DLNA technology supported by the Xbox 360 and Windows, as well as other devices.

You can’t, however, stream Youtube videos as far as I can tell. I’ll be digging into it a little bit, but since Vista bundled in search capabilities I’m not really motivated to install Google Desktop. Funny how Microsoft did that, isn’t it?

Yeah, I can’t say that I am all that motivated by this to run out and download Google Desktop. I have people at work that love it, but more often than not, it is not well received, due to the indexing slowing down some of the older computers in the office. I actually wish there was a way to get rid of Windows Search 3.0 in Vista, but the process that is out there is a bit cumbersome.
