I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

super old game boy

I feel like I should have held up today’s newspaper in this picture.

That shot was taken today, May 31 2008, and it features a woman on a train playing the original brick-style puke-green LCD Game Boy. I could not get close enough to spy without feeling creepy about it, but I would wager she was plugging away at Tetris. Those GBs are tough little guys, eh?

This ancient warhorse was spotted on a train to Philadelphia, on my way to the comic convention Wizard World. Aside from demos of the Iron Man and Hulk games at the Marvel Comics booth, and an ongoing stage exhibition of Rock Band, Guitar Hero 3, and DDR (everyone chose Rock Band, by the way), there was nothing else video gamey to report. Last year Sony had some significant floor space with several PS3 and PSP demo units. But then again, last year at this time Sony was probably a wee bit more desperate than they are today.

My wife and I still have one. It works, but right now it’s taken apart. I was planning a kind of crazy mod on the thing but got sidetracked.

That’s a great shot. I can’t remember what happened to my gameboy, I might have sold it for a Game Gear. ;-0

I still have two of them, perfect for Link Cable matches of Gauntlet 2 or Super RC Pro-Am!

  • Stephen Munn says:

The SP supports the link functions as well, even between the different models. For example, you can play Gauntlet 2 with one player on a GBA SP and the other on the original Game Boy. Keep in mind you don’t need to still be staring at that ancient screen.

Was it really that big? I remember playing tetris on the school bus back in the day.

    oh good old turkey ejaculation.

I still play one of these. It's awesome.

  • DickWalsh says:

that's awesome, i have two of those old ones and took one out to show my 7 year old niece. she thought it was really funny that it took 4 batteries (can't we just plug it in?) and that it didn't have a touch screen. she was also really confused over the contrast wheel on the side :P

Thats pretty good going even if the the screen cover has come off.
i think iv got at least 3 of these kicking about somewhere although i think most of the games i had have disappeared unfortunately as im now getting at overwhelming urge to take them down
