Stor3d: A New Beginning for Lair, Gran Turismo, and the Store.
The new PlayStation Store showed up on tax day this week (that’s April 15th for folks outside of the United States), bringing a “native app” feel to it instead of the sluggish Store we had in the browser. Its browser roots weren’t left behind entirely, unfortunately, with icons loading into the UI a little slower than some would have liked during the first few days. The content that hit this week gives some nice new goodies for games I either like already or have been interested in.
Gearheads will like the $39.99 headliner Gran Turismo 5 Prologue downloadable version. Like Warhawk this game has some significant teeth in its security. The game is available on Blu-ray, just as Warhawk is, for the same price at retail.
Warhawk got its free 1.3 patch a week or so ago offering new infantry equipment. Today the Broken Mirror add-on pack arrives for $7.99 giving a new map and Armored Personnel Carrier to go with it across existing maps. I’m a little unhappy to see a combination Booster Combo pack of both Broken Mirror and Omega Dawn add-ons for $11.99. This is great for people who didn’t buy Omega Dawn for $7.99 yet, but as someone who already did buy it I feel a little bit cheated. Then again if you’ve been on the sidelines you’ve missed out on the glorious destruction offered by the transport ship that came with Omega Dawn. Also check out the Warhawk x2 Theme for zero dollars and zero cents.
Super Stardust HD Solo Pack for USD 4.99 adds in “bigger explosions, extended music tracks, completely remastered sound effects and three new game modes – Endless, Survival and Time Attack.” This is a must-buy for me since SSHD is one of my favorite games on the PS3.
The Lair: Dragons and Control pack lands for free, giving the longtime laughingstock of tilt control some respectability by adding analog controls, a targeting reticle, and two new playable dragon mounts with DualShock 3 support. A new Lair Mokia Theme is also available for free.
Last but certainly not least is a truckload of Rock Band goodies that have been held up while the Store was being worked on. This includes the long-awaited “Still Alive” for free, Blondie’s “Call Me” for $1.99, The Police’s “Message In A Bottle” for $1.99, and a nice Harmonix Pack for $2.99 featuring “Sprode” from Freezepop.
