Revised Okami Box Art: Suitable for Framing
By Joe Fourhman | April 24, 2008
In a strange example of “I can’t believe their graphic designers did this,” Okami for Wii shipped with an IGN watermark on the cover! If you squint, you can even see it on our post announcing the game’s imminent release. The IGN circle-dpad-planet logo is right by Ammy’s mouth. Whoever composited the cover art must have Googled “Okami artwork” and grabbed one of IGN’s art files. Rather than, you know, walking down the hall and asking Capcom’s artists for the original files. Weird.
But Capcom is not ignoring this teeny little embarrassment; they’re giving away free stuff!
Visit their Cover Artwork Redemption page and you can request a new printing of the box art. Capcom doesn’t say why they redesigned the cover, just that they did and would like to send it to you. Ahem.
And it gets better… you can alternately choose from two other pieces of art, both sized to fit a DVD case.
Note that Capcom does not seem to require any kind of proof that you purchased Okami for Wii and are ticked off about the IGN fiasco. All they ask for is your name, email and address. So use your best judgment. Don’t forget, your workplace has an address too, wink wink. We won’t tell anyone.
I’m totally getting mine framed.

awsome some how i just cant bring myself to grab myself a copy of this though.
Capcom is pretty good about this stuff, when they make a mistake they usually fix it. I seem to recall many stories where they send free stuff to people who had a bad experience with their products. In this case they make it easy for their customers. Good on them.
I ordered the first one, which has the beautiful pic with the cherry blossoms. Very nice.
Maybe this one will have the 1up logo.
It just occurred to me they could have offered a Wii version of the original PS2 artwork, which was really nice.
Yeah, I went for the first one. If you something framable, it would be weird to go for the one with two Amaterasus or the actual game art version.
I often have to grab client’s work by doing a google image search when they can’t give me assets.
It’s amusing that they didn’t catch the IGN watermark on the image though.
I ordered option #2, in case I ever pick up the game and want it to have multiple covers.
I had the exact same thought as you. Frame it! I wouldn’t get rid of my IGN logo mistake cover for a million spacebucks! I also ordered option #2.
