Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 Slips To 2009 (Updated)

    By Paul Munn | April 21, 2008

Update: Apparently Wombat misremembered his conversation with Activision. MUA2 hasn’t been moved out of 2008 as previously said. Apparently the quote related to not wanting to release MUA2 too close to the new Spider-Man game coming out, but nothing more was said. Wombat’s post about the mixup is here

Wombat had a good time at the Comic-Con in New York City this weekend and along the way managed to get some time with the developer of Marvel Ultimate Alliance to ask about the sequel. It turns out it won’t come out in 2008, allowing the developer to instead focus on their Spider-Man work in progress. He also got a little bit of time with some guy named Sid Meier to talk about upcoming Civ games, including one for a little handheld game system that occasionally ships a few units called the DS.

My review of Marvel Ultimate Alliance once again underscored what makes a dungeon crawler so much fun to go back to and how MUA did some of that right. You can check that out here. With luck MUA2 will go the rest of the way, but even if it didn’t it would still likely be fun to play.

Also, I don’t know what it is, but the picture Wombat got of Sid Meier looks just as good as every other picture of the guy I’ve seen online. I’ve never seen a bad picture of this man. I think Meier’s ability to make excellent games might not be his only supernatural talent. I’m guessing his pact with the devil might have included a bit of extra space on the bottom…

Meier, reading contract: “da-te-da-da, bla bla bla, incredible game design abilities, good. Oh hey can I just write in eternally photogenic on the contract, is that ok?”

Satan: “What? Uh. Okay. Is that it?”

Meier: “Yep, that’s all.” *scribble scribble*

That’s funny, I like the image of Sid Meier with Satan. Partly because it’s Satan from South Park and Sid Meier’s face on a square body with a squeaky voice and flappy head like Saddam Hussein.
