I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

Iron Man Demo Impressions

Submitted by on April 18, 2008 – 2:23 pm8 Comments

I should really be ashamed of myself. After seeing some gameplay footage of the upcoming Iron Man game I thought for sure that it would not be another sloppily put together movie based game, but after playing the demo I yet again feel the sting of movie game mediocrity.

Ok, Iron Man is not the worst demo I have ever played, but in terms of disappointment it’s definitely in my top 3. The biggest problem this game seems to have is the controls. I played through the demo several times, and even after I tweaked everything and got used to the controls the game still felt really unpolished. Add on the less then impressive graphics, the cheesy dialogue (bad cheesy, not good cheesy) and repetitive gameplay, and you have another movie game that is sure to garner plenty of 6 and 7’s in coming reviews. It may be better then a lot of other movie based games, but that really isn’t saying much. Let’s just hope the movie is better then the game.

What did you think of the Iron Man demo? Did you actually enjoy it? Let us know in the comments section.

Hmmmm thats a tough one Shane. Some of the Spider-Man games were decent, but other then that I can’t think of a game off hand that was good, but damn Iron Man looked like it was gonna be good!

I haven’t played the demo but this is sad because games like these are miss opportunities. Who wouldn’t want to be Iron Man in a open ended city?

  • Levi Thornton says:

Ha ha, crap, I didn’t read the entry right… crap… I just woke up… give me a break.

  • Shane says:

i agree, they all have potential to be great. They kind of ruin our boyhood memories of super heroes when when play these – much like LotR ruined the books.

I think you have a major prejudice to movie tie-in games. Spider-man 1 was a bust I agree. Spider-man 2 was a much better game. They pale in comparison to the Iron Man game. Once you master the controls an amazing world opens up to you. You can hover and rain repulsor death upon your enemies. You can fly through the demo and complete the mission any way you want to. You can land on tanks and rip them apart, rip turrets off their mounts, throw missiles back at their sender (Which takes some skill I might add), break helicopters in half, and grab SAM launchers and use their own missiles to destroy targets. What is not awesome about that? You can reroute power to where you need it (Weapons, Life support, Melee, and Thrusters). My only complaints about the demo, and I bet they will be fixed in the release, is the weak melee and the AI’s lack of terrain reasoning. A few of the SAM launchers would drive up near vertical surfaces.
