PS3 2.20 Adds HD-DVD-like Downloads; Playlist, Remote Play, Web Browser Updates.

Last night after a punishing game of Warhawk that involved the opposing team trapping me and my cohorts in our base on the Omega Dawn map and cutting our virtual heads off whenever we ran out to try and take to the air I surfed around and found out Firmware 2.20 had been launched on the PS3.

One of the new features reminded me of something that our very own Joe Haygood mentioned as being a good feature of HD-DVD back when it looked like HD-DVD was headed downhill in January: online downloads. Blu-Ray 2.0 as it’s called will include this feature, known as BD-LIVE, and two discs are set to come out with internet-downloadable content in the coming weeks from Sony Pictures.

What else is new?
* Export any playlist you’ve created (and its content) for photos or music directly to a USB-connected PSP.
* When in Remote Play mode the PS3 can output audio on the PS3 instead of only on the PSP.
* DVDs and Blu-Rays can now be resumed at the same point even after taking the disc out.
* Web browser has been updated to browse some pages faster. The file menu can now save targets onto the PS3 hard drive (images and other files).

For a demo of these features check out the Crackle-hosted video above for the details.
