Achievement Cheats on the 360 Get Sent Back to Zero (or Zed)
By Joe Haygood | March 25, 2008
Major Nelson today announced a new policy for those that are caught cheating on the 360 using traded saved games and other methods to boost achievement scores. Anyone caught cheating will have their score reset all the way back to zero. They also lose the ability to gain any of the previous achievements that were in their inventory before the reset. They will however, be able to get achievements on a forward basis in other games.
The last punishment is probably the best out of all of them. Their profile will have a banner attached to it that marks them as a dirty, rotten no good cheat. I like the idea of this one and I can only hope that it makes people think twice before they decide to cheat.
I have never understood why some feel the need to cheat and build up their achievement score. It is a meaningless number if you have decided to use artificial means to boost it. I mean look at how many people put Avatar in the Low Availability category on Gamefly because they could get 1000 points in 50 seconds. Way to waste a rental spot. The only reason I let that slide a bit, is because the person actually played the game. Those that restore saved games from other people are just ruining the fun for others. It is sad that people will go to such lengths just to boost a number that gains them nothing except some small bragging rights in their small niche of friends.
