Ones to Watch on PSP and PS3 for February 2008
We’re two for two in 2008 with cross-platform gaming goodness. This month Devil May Cry 4 lands on both the PS3 and 360 on February 5th the way Burnout Paradise did last month and for DMC fans like myself it should be a great romp through a bigger, prettier, and hopefully not abusively punishing adventure. The other big game this month also happens to be hitting both consoles is the combo-centric shooter The Club, and that’s coming on the 19th.
What’s hitting the PSP this month? Hit the jump and let’s take a look.
The PSP this month has Wipeout Pulse heavily laden with online racing modes and features reaching the US on the 12th and the very interesting Patapon hitting on the 26th, with the latter at a $20 price point. Because I do like me some hacking and slashing I must mention Dungeon Explorer coming on the 12th, which should also hit the DS this month. Like numerous other PSP games it will be ad-hoc wireless multiplayer only and completely miss the point of a handheld with WiFi built into it. I will play it at some point, don’t get me wrong, but I won’t like it. Wait, why am I going to play it again?
By the way if you’re thinking of waiting to get Patapon, I’d get it right away. Last time something came out at $19.99 it was later kicked up to $29.99 when it sold well and it was called Sid Meier’s Pirates. We all want cheaper games and this is your chance to vote for cheap starting prices that go up later, something I’ve mentioned before as a way to reward early adopters and drive unit sales. If you pre-order Patapon you can get an exclusive demo with an exclusive in-game weapon that you can then carry with your demo save game over to the full game. I mean really, the game is cheap and looks really neat, so the demo and weapon are a nice pat on the head for something you’re already going to do. Do you want to know more?
Is it OK if I sneak in a PS2 game? Twisted Metal Head On: Extra Twisted Edition lands in the first week of February to give folks their port of the PSP game with a bunch of extra features and, as far as I can tell, no online play. The PSP version had online play and got mid-8 scores in case you missed that one.
Don’t forget Valentine’s Day is this month. Order those flowers early or, if you’re like me, don’t order any at all ahead of time because every year for the last three years three different well-known delivery companies have failed to deliver them on the correct days at the correct times. You’d think they’d have Valentine’s Day delivery down to a science or something, I mean come on!Tags: Ones to Watch
