Ones to Watch on DS and Wii in March 2008.
![]()
Holy smokes, this is going to be one heck of a month on Nintendo’s platforms. Not only is the Wii’s most anticipated title to date, Super Smash Bros Brawl, releasing in about a week, but it’s going to be a full month across both platforms. Mind you, this will be a big month for Sony’s platforms too, so make sure you watch for those lists as well, particularly if you’re down with the god slaying scene. And, frankly, who isn’t?
On with the releases.
SUPER SMASH BROS BRAWL
Need I say more?
OKAMI
Okami makes its leap from PS2 to Wii with added functionality in the control and visuals department, now running in widescreen at 480p and featuring IR control for the Celestial Brush, a game mechanic that seems to have been designed for the Wii Remote. At $40, it’s a bargain, and I’ll be there on day one.
BULLY: SCHOLARSHIP EDITION
Bully also is jumping for PS2 to 360 and Wii in this enhanced port with updated visuals and all-new content. Rockstar’s school social game didn’t sell too well the first time around, we’ll see if the new version has what it takes to get some more attention.
NINJA GAIDEN: DRAGON SWORD
This DS game is incredible. I grabbed a demo from a Download Station and was amazed at what the game is both visually and in terms of control. A game that controls almost entirely with the stylus (press any button to block) is this refined in control? Looks like Team Ninja’s making everyone else look bad. Speaking of making everyone look bad, the graphics on Dragon Sword seem impossible on this platform. This one’s an accomplishment and I recommend everyone grab the demo.
INSECTICIDE
Insecticide is a gift for those of us who grew up on, and still love, the PC adventure game. Reimagined for the handheld, Insecticide looks to be a great bug-infested gumshoe adventure with lots of shooting. Coming soon to PC as well in an episodic format, so watch for that.
FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: RING OF FATES
The super-popular Final Fantasy series’ much-derided offshoot doesn’t deserve the negative attention it gets. The original on Gamecube had no real point if you didn’t have the hardware for a multiplayer game, but properly equipped, it was genuinely a good time, and good looking to boot. The world of Crystal Chronicles is reimagined in a handheld format in Ring of Fates, which is more of a traditional RPG than the original, it seems. Definitely a looker on the platform.
NANOSTRAY 2
As a huge fan of Nanostray, I’m very excited about Nanostray 2. Sadly, it’s ended up in a month crowded with quality due to a number of slides in the game’s release date. Alas, I’ll be too busy this month to pick it up at launch, and won’t likely get to it for some time.
