More X3 On The Way
Remember the space sim genre? The dead one? The one nobody makes games for because there’s such a limited audience? Ok ok I’ll keep my voice down so Egosoft doesn’t hear me because they continue to support their X2 and X3 space sims and have recently announced a new expansion for X3 called X3: Terran Conflict. Someone must be buying these things because software doesn’t grow on trees.
Just before the holiday I got an email (as a registered owner of X2) that there was a new patch, the last one (and this time we mean it) for the game as a backport of a new patch for X3 that lets owners export stats to their Egosoft forums accounts. Bragging rights about money earned, stations built, enemies conquered, and more awaited. Did I install it? No, I’m skittish when it comes to nonessential game patches. I’m always afraid something will break the game I already enjoy.
In the past I’ve mentioned X2 being up for sale at Target for just ten bucks, but today I took a trip over to Steam and noticed you can get X2 for that same amount and X3 for twice that. I’ve recently rediscovered the usefulness of Steam when migrating to a new computer. Just log in and get the software you already own without having to scrounge up discs and in the case of online authentication beg for the ability to install software again.
