Activision Talks FY 2009, Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero
Activision held a quarterly earnings conference to discuss the future of some key series in fiscal year 2009, which starts in April 2008. Some of the franchises that came up included Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, Call of Duty and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. They also discussed the large growith that the company experienced in the last fiscal year, due in part to Guitar Hero III.
The Guitar Hero franchise will experience two new products in the period between April and June 2008. The talk is rumored around a DS version called Guitar Hero: On Tour, while the other is rumored around the band Aerosmith. Guitar Hero IV is currently scheduled to come out in the winter months, further affirming the once to twice a year nature of this series.
Activision acknowledged the less than stellar numbers for Tony Hawk: Proving Grounds, mostly due to competition from the EA entry in the field, skate. Activision is promising new revisions to the Tony Hawk games, which include new comtrol and tour features. This is good news, as it shows how competition can help strengthen the players in a genre (are you reading that NFL, competition is good).
Other games that are promised sequels, but will not be showing up until 2009 are Call of Duty and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. This is the first that I have heard about a Marvel Ultimate Alliance sequel, which is good news, while we already knew that a Call of Duty entry was on its way, and will be set in WWII all over again. What is news is that the game is being put on two new platforms, the PS2 and Wii. These consoles will get a different version of the game, but it will be loosely focused in the same period.
