Zelda alter-ego Sheik from Ocarina of Time makes a return appearance in Brawl.

Sheik is not a new addition to the Smash Bros franchise, having appeared most recently in the Gamecube iteration, Super Smash Bros Melee. Those who’ve been away for a little while might remember her as the mysterious stranger in the future Hyrule that Link travels to who offers him advice and, more often, some brief, catchy tunes that let him do various things like turn night to day or warp to various places in the overworld.
Sheik returns as an alternate form of Zelda, just as she was in Melee, changing the moveset the princess has significantly.
Use Zelda’s down special move to transform into Sheik! Once you do so, you’ll have access to a new character completely unique from Zelda.
Sheik doesn’t appear in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, but we based her model on a design that was drafted up during the development of that game.
I find it fascinating that Sheik was originally intended to appear in Twilight Princess. I did not know that.
