Zack & Wiki a brilliant game, and one of a few compelling reasons to own a Wii.

There are some great, well-made titles available for Wii. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, and Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure spring to mind. I was fortunate enough that someone gifted me Zack & Wiki last month. This was a game I was very eager to try and I’ve found it at least as good as reviews promised. The puzzles in the game are challenging, but not brutal, and they’re the sort of thing that makes you feel really good about when you figure them out. It’s a very smart, meticulously designed game that does a lot of things I’ve never seen before in a game in very clever ways.
One of the best things about the game is that while it’s a single-player design, it works very well as a team event. I’ve been playing the game cooperatively with my wife, and we tend to get stuck on different things. Several times I was stuck on a puzzle which she was able to solve. We actually pass the remote back and forth as needed, and it works out nicely.
I’ve found the controls very well done. The whole game controls with just the Wii Remote, using the IR functionality for point-and-click pathfinding through the different stages, and then items are operated with an assortment of motions. It’s one of the few games I’ve played on the platform where the controls seem completely natural for the game, and could not have been done any other way… at least not as well as it was done here.
I highly recommend for anyone who has the opportunity to give this game a try.
