Skype Only For PSP Slim.

Rumors popped up over the weekend that Skype would be exclusive to the PSP Slim and, sadly, they’re true. I want to say that this is a hardware issue and not a policy issue. Maybe that extra memory used for caching data during gameplay is coming in handy for add-on software like this. With Skype hitting the not-so-little handheld that could I wonder what’s coming next?
All the major Skype features should be there, from free VOIP calls to other Skype users to SkypeOut and SkypeIn calls for subscribers. Should be a nice perk for Slim folks out there, and maybe another reason to upgrade for folks leaning that way.
I had the chance to fiddle with a PSP Slim over the holidays and it was pretty impressive. Had I known they’d start cutting off PSP-1001 owners from new features I’d have used the $15-off coupon that expired in November that I got with the God of War: Chains of Olympus demo. I guess the consolation is that when it does come time to sell my PSP-1001 it’s going to go for good money because of it’s mod-friendly hardware. I’ve read that it’s easier to hack than the PSP-1001b revision that’s out there too, so someone will be happy to pay for the whole kit and caboodle since it’ll need a new headset too.
