With the new year three weeks in, everyone starts to discuss what will happen in the upcoming year of gaming. What will sell the most copies, will this flop, what will surprise and so on. I normally, in the past have never really felt compelled to look at these lists as a reader, but now being on the other side of the fence as a writer, I can see the fun in putting one of these lists together. So here are some of the things I see happening in gaming for 2008. Bookmark this article, because at the end of the year, you will want to ridicule or be amazed at my Karnak like skills.

  • Huxley, will end up being radically different from the product envisioned three years ago, becoming more FPS and far less RPG.

  • Duke Nukem Forever comes out December 2008 and is actually good.

  • Knights of the Old Republic MMORPG finally annouced in the summer, after being rumored forever.

  • We start to see Wii overstock by September of 2008 after a lack of good games from third party providers
  • Metal Gear Solid 4 announced for the 360 in July at E3.
  • Little Big Planet will be Game of the Year

  • LIve for Windows finally becomes integrated into the Vista OS by Christmas 2008, and will allow play of XBLA games that are owned on the 360 to be played on the PC, when available.
  • Xbox 360 drops $75 in price the day that Grand Theft Auto IV is released
  • CryEngine2 become the engine of choice for game companies
  • PS3 wins sales race for the holiday 2008 season
  • Home launches in October with rave reviews, but will charge for certain services
  • Grand Theft Auto IV will come to the PC for Chirstmas and will support Live for Windows
  • APB Will Be Cancelled
  • Kane and Lynch 2 Will Be Announced and will coincide with the movie property that is being developed
  • Rock Band will release album downloads on XBL marketplace in April, but will come with the ability to download the MP3s via a PC

    WoW some very controversial stuff
“Little Big Planet will be Game of the Year” i don’t see this happening not even close i can name so many other better games right off the top of my head
“PS3 wins sales race for the holiday 2008 season”
not really im gonna say it might be a 3 way tie
“Xbox 360 drops $75 in price the day that Grand Theft Auto IV is released”
thats pretty big drop id have to call bull crap on that also

  • Well, I could of gone the easy route and picked obvious things like, MGS4 will sell well, and so on, but I would rather take some risk with my predictions.

Trust me, I will get tons of email that will link back to this at the end of the year telling me how wrong I was if they don’t pan out.

Oh gee thanks I haven’t had a good laugh like that for a long time.

  • Richard Windsor says:

I think that the PS3 will sell better this year obviously, the only problem us that the 360 and Wii will always be cheaper and that is something alongside all the good games for the Wii and 360 that will prevent Sony from leading the holiday sales. But I guess you never know, stranger things have happened.

  • “Metal Gear Solid 4 announced for the 360 in July at E3.”

So I should hold off on saving for a PS3? ;-)

Duke Nukem finally comes out? Do you have inside sources??? :-√û
