Fragile Alliance Now Works and Is Fun to Play

Anyone that remembers my review of Kane and Lynch: Dead Men back in November, I was not kind, and spared no expense on all the game’s flaws. Well, I also mentioned that the multiplayer was not working all that well and that I could never seem to get a game started or located via the Live for Windows service.

Well, a couple of months later, and while we still have no patch or any other support from Eidos on this game, a recent Live for Windows update seems to have helped with the multiplayer on the PC side of the fence. I can actually locate games now via the List Play feature. The multiplayer component, Fragile Alliance, is some of the best fun I have had lately with a multiplayer game.

For those that do not know the premise of Fragile Aliiance, here is a breakdown of the game. You start off with all the players on the same team. Your goal is to get as much loot as possible from the heist, and escape without dying. If you die, you come back as one of the people trying to stop the heist. Die again, and you are out until the end of the mission. But one component that makes this brilliant is the traitor feature. At any point in the mission, you can kill one or more of your teammates, increasing your loot take and split. People that do this are marked as a traitor, so you can find the guy that killed you and take a pound of justice out of him.

Playing through several games now, Fragile Alliance is an original way to handle multiplayer. Never knowing when your teammate will line up his crosshairs on you is always a concern. It adds a lot of suspense to the never ending hail of bullets from the people defending the heist. The game is pretty smooth, and lacks any noticable lag. And it was sweet satisfaction to get to the pick up site last night in my last mission and take out all of my team right before the helicopter showed up, allowing me to get all the money for myself. Just awesome.

And it is because of this I am upset. Why was this mode such a problem to get working. This could of been an instant way to salvage this game. The multiplayer is just adds so much to the game. Problem now is the bad word on the game due to the Gamespot affair and the preview staring issue, that not a lot of players are left. Also, the game needs a lot more maps. I believe the 360 side got a new batch of maps, but they have not materialized for the PC players yet. This is such a great little mode of play, and I hope that more people do get to play it. It makes the game a lot more fun overall.
